Owl Crafts: Halloween Owl

Would you take a look at this dapper little guy? I just adore owls, and I don’t think an owl can get any cuter than this dude wearing a suit.

This was one of my quicker owl crafts. I actually have a very long history of making over owls and doing other types of owl crafts. I can’t help it – I just can’t resist a good owl!

I found this white ceramic owl bust at Michael’s on clearance. Of course I had to have him, and at around $5, I really couldn’t pass up the deal. I actually almost bought two so that I could keep one plain white and paint the other. Or maybe paint one for Halloween and one for Christmas? So many owl crafts and so little time, amirite?

Okay, but back to my little Halloween owl. When I bought him I thought sure, he’s cute on his own, but I also thought he could use a little Halloween-ing up. (Is Halloweening a verb? Can it be?)

Because the owl had a shiny ceramic finish, I sprayed him with white primer spray paint first. You can use this technique with pretty much anything you want to make over (as long as it’s just for looks and you don’t plan to eat out of it or anything).

Next, I went to town with some acrylic paint! I wanted him to have a purple suit (of course), with some spooky green eyes for Halloween. What do you think? Does he look better before or after?
