Support Fire Safety with the San Diego Fire Rescue 5K & Kids Run

I received incentives to write this post, however all experiences and opinions expressed are my own.FireRunOk, I generally don’t like to run unless I’m being chased by something unruly, but I’m always down to support a good cause. And the San Diego Fire Rescue 5K & Kids Run is definitely a good cause! If you’ll be in San Diego at the beginning of October, I invite you to join me in this run!

The San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation is holding the run/walk on October 8, 2016 to kick off Fire Prevention Week. There are tons of ways to participate! Including: 5K Run/Walk, 5K Run/Walk Stroller Division, 5K Public Safety Division, 1-mile Kids Run and a 100 meter Sparky Sprint. Individuals, families, and kids are all welcome. Awards will be presented for the first place male and female finishers in each division!

What makes this 5K run/walk so fun is that firefighters will run along with participants and meet them at the finish line to hand out finisher’s medals. The course starts and finishes just south of Seaport Village. You can run, walk, or stroll past a beautiful marina and shopping complexes which include 54 one-of-a-kind shops. So it’s a great way to have fun running with local firefighters AND it will raise much needed funds for the foundation.

Plus, after the run/walk, there will be an interactive Fire Safety Expo featuring firefighter demonstrations, SDFD specialty divisions including Bomb Squad, Hazmat and Heavy Rescue, Sparky the Fire Dog, San Diego Lifeguards, an SDG&E Fire Safety House and much more!

All the money raised will go to help support the Foundation’s mission of providing enhanced equipment, training, and to support their community education program.

The race will take place at the San Diego Embarcadero Marina Park South on Saturday, October 8, 2016 starting at 8:00 am. You can sign up online at http://sdfirerescue5k.org/. AND use this special coupon code: SDFIRE5K for $5 off your registration!

In addition to going to a good cause, your entry fee includes: a race shirt, drawstring goodie bag, custom finisher’s medal, access to the safety expo and beer garden (21+).

Formed in 2005, the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by former firefighters and dedicated community leaders to help provide the unmet needs of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
