DIY Mirror Makeover

DIY-Mirror-Makeover

Hello, hello, hello and welcome back to another exciting and thrilling edition of Transformation Tuesday! This week we will be transforming a so-so, bleh kind of mirror into a beautiful and exotic red chevron mirror!

Haha, okay, maybe the mirror isn’t THAT exciting, but I thought the cool bokeh effect I did on the mirror picture above deserved a little more “razzle dazzle” than usual. I found this plain mirror and wanted to make it a little more special.

Note: the mirror part doesn't actually look like that, I just pixelated it so you wouldn't see my messy house in the reflection.

I also found this really cool chevron printed duct tape at Target, so I covered the frame with the tape and then added the wooden star cutout that I had painted red and white.

It was a really fast and easy project, my only problem is that the duct tape smells! It smells so bad you guys, seriously. My husband says he doesn’t notice it that much, but I seriously think it smells majorly toxic.

Has anyone else had this problem with smelly duct tape? I googled “how to remove the smell of duct tape” and other variations, but I found no resolution. I have wiped the duct tape down with a soapy paper towel twice now, and it still smells as bad as ever! (And it’s been over a week since I covered the mirror with the tape.)

I don’t want to undo all my work on the mirror, but I may be forced to if the tape doesn’t stop smelling.

Any suggestions for stinky duct tape??

I used to make a lot of stuff from Duck Tape in high school. It usually eventually stopped smelling weird! Just give it a few days before you give up hope. Totally cute idea – I hope it stops smelling and works out for you!

I like how you pixelated the mirror to block the view 😉 The final mirror looks great!

I, also, thank you for showing how to photograph a mirror. I would never have thought of pixelating it. I have in the past avoided duct tape because of the smell. It does eventually go away. You can try wrapping the mirror in newspaper with a little white vinegar sprinkled on it. It looks great anyway!

I think your stinky duct tape will settle down … thankfully you are aware of what might be in the background of a mirror image. You see the most interesting things in the background of many posted images.
